Bread Cigars

INGREDIENTS:

Makes 10 to 12 depending on the size and length of the cigars

  1. Bread slices - 8 (I used sweet white bread, you can use any bread you want; sweet bread will taste better)
  2. Corn flour - 3 teaspoons
  3. Chopped coriander leaves - 1 tablespoon
  4. Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Cumin powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  6. Chaat masala - 2 pinches (optional)
  7. Salt - 1/4 teaspoon (adjust as per taste)
  8. Oil - For deep frying.

     METHOD:

    • Tear bread slices and sprinkle some water and knead well.
    • Add corn flour, red chilli powder, cumin powder, chaat masala, salt, coriander leaves and knead until it seems like smooth yet stiff dough (similar to chapati dough texture). Now check for salt and add if needed.
    • Set aside for 10 to 15 minutes so that the dough absorbs the flavors well. No harm in proceeding immediately, if you don't have enough time.
    • Pinch out small equal portions from the dough and roll them between your palms to form finger long cylindrical shapes. Cut the ends with a knife to give a clean look if you want.
    • Now place a frying pan on flame and pour enough oil to deep fry the prepared cigars. When the oil turns hot gently slide in the prepared cigars.
    • Fry on a medium flame until they turn brown in color.
    • Remove from oil using a slotted spoon and place on a tissue paper to remove excess oil.
    • Serve hot with ketchup.
